Kathy and Alan, husband and wife team.
Originally from Wirral (not far from Liverpool and Chester)
It all started in 2010, we were looking for a change and along came the opportunity of trying something completely different. We have always enjoyed travelling and experiencing different cultures, the timing was good for us to do something for ourselves. Our kids were now adults and we couldn't think of a reason not to give it a shot. Having years of experience in accounts and customer services this was the perfect area for me to transfer my skills. Alan, my husband has spent his working life in engineering so we really feel we have all bases covered. We rented the property and ran the business for 5 years. We took great pleasure in completing the purchase of the property in September 2014, so it looks like we are here to stay

You will find us on the outskirts of a small typical Portuguese village Almadena, just 5 minutes walk to the village where you will find places to eat and drink, there is a small supermarket. We are located 3 klms from the beaches, 1 klm from Costa Vicentina National Park, 8klm from the bustling city of Lagos, Just 1 hours drive from Faro airport makes us ideally located to relax and unwind
Burgau is the closest beach to Paraiso Jardim and is perfect for a relaxing day out or maybe dining on the sea front. Burgau is a small fishing village mostly missed by mass tourism. Its charm pulls visitors back time after time and it’s easy to see why. Why not try walking or cycling to the village and spending a lazy afternoon on the beach then explore the narrow cobbled streets and pick up some fresh local produce at one of the local Mercado’s.
Praia da Luz’s main highlight of course is its wonderful beach with its dramatic volcanic rock backdrop. The gentle sloping sand and its shallow waters are ideal for children swimming, this beach also has lifeguards on duty throughout the summer.
In the summer months you will find great water sport activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing, paddleboats and boat trips, all available on the beach.
As well as the beach and the water sports you will find there are plenty of other things to do close to Praia da Luz such as tennis, walking tours, horse riding to the more extreme sports such as quad biking, rock climbing and micro lighting.
The historic town of Lagos is just 10 minutes away from Paraiso Jardim, the town has lots to offer. There is plenty of shopping, a good night life, and a large established Marina as well as its rich history. It is definitely the place to go if you want a change from the relative peace and quiet of Luz. It can get quite busy in high summer but don’t be deterred by this Lagos has some brilliant attractions including the ‘Gold’ church of Sainto Antionio which is well worth a look at, it is adjoined to the museum and there are lots of local artefacts on display. The fort is well worth a visit, especially at night when it and the ‘walled city’ are illuminated. You can’t miss the sculpture of Dom Sebastião, that stands in the main town square in front of the Town Hall.
The narrow winding streets with its cobbles are well worth setting an afternoon aside to explore. If you like shopping there are unique boutiques and stalls to discover . Aside from shopping the architecture of the historical buildings is inspiring enough for everyone to appreciate. If you want to explore Lagos in style why not take a trip around town on one of the Honda Goldwing Tours? If you like motorbikes then this is the tour for you. Find the stall just by the bridge at the Marina.
Take a visit to the famous grottos in a small fishing boat, a local fisherman will show you the distinctive and magnificent cliffs and intriguing rock formations and even take you into the caves and grottos.
It is no exaggeration to say that here in the Algarve we have one of the best mountain biking areas in the world right on our doorstep. I am referring of course to the fabulous Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina covering 130,000 hectares and extending 110km up the west coast from Vila do Bispo to just below Sines. Paraiso Jardim is a great starting point to explore this gem on two wheels. One only has to cross the road and hit the trails which combine everything from groomed stone chippings to red runs though forests with steep climbs and downhills.
Within half an hour you can visit remote bays, pine and eucalyptus scented forests, fields of wild flowers in spring, panoramas along the crests of hills and seascapes that take your breath away. Riding along a remote beach just after sunrise has to be right up there on the list of life’s great experiences. Just by keeping to the coast, even in summer it is cool enough to ride for several hours or more.
Combine a plethora of endless beaches, Beautiful Accommodation, a bounty of characteristic Portuguese food and some of the friendliest people in the world, and you have the makings of a great surf trip.
